Miroslav Mareš

Miroslav Mareš, on May 1, 2007 in Brno , as an observer of a demonstration by supporters of the neo-Nazi movement Národní odpor (National Resistance), which was disbanded by the police.

Miroslav Mareš (born April 8, 1974 in Brno ) is a Czech lawyer and political scientist . He is Professor of Political Science at Masaryk University in Brno.

Life

Mareš studied political science (Mgr. 1997) and law (Mgr. 1999) at the Masaryk University in Brno and in 1993 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 2000 he acquired a JUDr. at the Faculty of Law and a PhDr. and PhD. at the Faculty of Social Studies in Brno. After working as a technical assistant at the Chair of Political Science, in 2003/04 he went to the Philosophical Faculty of the Technical University as a DAAD guest lecturer for the " European Studies " courses with Beate Neuss as part of the "Visiting Professorship for EU Eastern Expansion and Central Europe" Chemnitz , where he gave a lecture on the political system of the Czech Republic .

In 2005 he completed his habilitation in political science in Brno on the subject of "Terrorism in the Czech Republic after 1989". He then became a research assistant (officially jmenování docentem ) at the Institute of Comparative Studies and head of the Department of Security and Strategy Studies of the Chair of Political Science of the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno. In 2007 he worked at the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCO) at the University of California, San Diego in the USA. Since 2014 he has been Professor of Political Science at Masaryk University in Brno. Mareš supervised several doctoral projects.

He conducts intensive research on extremism and terrorism in East Central Europe, deals with party theories and analyzes of political fields. In 2008 he was a consultant for hate symbols of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). In addition, Mareš was a speaker at the Veldensteiner Kreis and author of several books and specialist articles (including the yearbook Extremism & Democracy ).
