The Mishtshenko squill ( Scilla mischtschenkoana ) is a plant type from the genus of the blue star ( Scilla ) within the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The specific epithet refers to the Russian botanist Pawel Ivanovich Mishchenko .

The Mishchenko squill is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 8 to 18 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The 2 to 3 (rarely up to 5) leaves measure 5 to 15 × 0.4 to probably 2 centimeters. 1 to 5 (rarely up to 8) inflorescences with 2 to 6 flowers each are formed per bulb . The flower stalks are 3 to 25 millimeters long. The tepals are bell-shaped, whitish in color with a light blue central nerve and measure 10 to 20 × 6 to 7 millimeters. The seeds are black and have a white, semicircular oil body.

The flowering period extends from February to March, sometimes until April.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 12.

Occurrence

The natural range includes southern Transcaucasia and northwestern Iran . Here the species can be found on dry, montane to subalpine rock heaths, on rock bases and in crevices.

use

This species is widely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens, borders and borders. It has been in culture since 1931 at the latest. The 'Zwanenburg' variety has light bluish flowers. Pushkinia scilloides is similar in habit , but has a white corolla that envelops the stamens.
