With all hardness (original title: Once in the Life ) is an American gangster thriller from 2000.

action

The two half-brothers Billy and Mike meet again after a long time in prison and then try to get a couple of teenage drug couriers to get their goods, 4 kg of heroin . A business faked in a hotel room ends in a shootout. Billy loses his nerve and kills the drug couriers, but is injured in one hand himself. The two half-brothers flee and hide in a dilapidated house. Mike contacts his longtime prison mate Tony and asks him to come over to help them. Tony appears but, to the displeasure of Mike, is suspiciously pinned by Billy. For a long time it remains unclear how the three men relate to each other. When Billy was questioned again, it turns out that Tony had contact with the boss of the drug couriers who were shot in the hotel room. But this one asserts that it has long since dropped out. Billy's injury causes problems as does his heroin addiction. After a syringe that Tony prepared for him at his request, Billy collapses in a comatose manner. The film leaves open whether Tony had any influence on this. Because in the interludes it became clear that Tony, contrary to his assurances, not only works with the drug boss Manny, but also has the task of killing the two drug thieves. And so Mike is shot dead by Tony in the end and the house is set on fire. The gang boss Manny over the phone signals his satisfaction to Tony.
