Mitchell Tony Oxborrow (born February 18, 1995 in Dagenham , Greater London ) is an English-Australian football player .

Career

Oxborrow was around ten years old when he and his family moved from England to Perth , Australia . His footballing talent was recognized at an early stage, so in 2009 he took part in the national championship in Coffs Harbor with the U-15 team of Western Australia , and in 2010 he was honored as the best goalscorer in the youth division by ECU Joondalup . After a season at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Oxborrow joined the Newcastle United Jets in 2012 , where he was scheduled for the youth team, but received a professional contract as did his teammates Connor Chapman and Jack Duncan . Oxborrow had already trained at the AIS under the coach of the professional team there, Gary van Egmond .

The central midfielder made his professional debut on December 14, 2012 in the away game against Perth Glory , when he was surprisingly in the starting line-up. Shortly before half-time he lost the ball to make it 0-1 and was replaced at halftime, it was his only competitive game in the 2012/13 season and his only starting eleven in the A-League until his departure in mid-2014. Oxborrow extended his contract to mid-2015 in October 2013, but his hope for more working time did not come true. In the following season 2013/14 Oxborrow came under coach Clayton Zane as a substitute to five more missions for the Jets, but the total time only added to 31 minutes. In August 2014, he agreed with the Jets to terminate his contract early and returned to Western Australia. There he joined the Perth Glory youth team.

In 2011 Oxborrow took part with the Australian U-17 national team at the U-17 World Cup in Mexico. During the tournament he made two short appearances as a substitute, including the 4-0 defeat in the round of 16 against Uzbekistan. In 2012 he was part of the Australian U-20 team at the U-19 Asian Cup , but was not used when reaching the semi-finals. Oxborrow was also part of the squad of the Australian U-20s and even led them as captain during a game at the 2013 COTIF tournament in Spain. The last time Oxborrow was included in the qualification for the U-19 Asian Cup 2014 in an Australian selection team was in October 2013 , when the team successfully qualified for the final round that took place one year later.
