The International Society for Railway Traffic (IGE or International Society for Railway Traffic IGE GmbH & Co. KG) is a private railway company (EVU) and railway infrastructure company (EIU) based in Hersbruck an der Pegnitz .

history

The IGE has its roots in the Hersbrucker Eisenbahnfreunden e. V. At the end of 1985, as a spin-off, the InterestGemommunity Eisenbahn e. V. (IGE) what still exists. On September 15, 1988, from this by the current managing director Armin Goetz in the commercial register , the IGE Bahn Touristik GmbH & Co. KG entered.

The travel agency was founded in 1991 and has also been the DB agency since 2001 .

The license as an RU in freight and passenger transport has been in place since July 31, 2003 and is valid until July 1, 2018.

In 2004 the name was changed to the current name. The company was divided into four business areas:

  • Rail tourism (special trains and group travel)
  • DB agency with travel agency
  • Rail logistics (freight transport)
  • Eurotrain (charter trains)

In 2011, rail operations were separated from tourism. The travel business has been carried out since April 26, 2012 by IGE-Erlebnisreisen und Reiseservice GmbH .

For many years, the IGE has been a travel cooperation partner of Bahnpark Augsburg , where the vehicles are serviced, as well as a partner of Hagen von Ortloff , with whom several television episodes for Eisenbahn-Romantik were created during special train trips .

The company is a member of the International Union of Railways (UIC) and the Deutscher ReiseVerband e. V. , the former German travel agency and tour operator association. V.

Location

Since April 30, 2003, the IGE has been operating a private siding in the Hersbruck train station (Pegnitz on the right) with a length of 900 m. These track systems are used for stabling and train formation . Some of the facilities have been used by Deutsche Bahn AG since 2016 to park railcars of the 648 series .

Another track is used to rear the unused locomotives from N1 Rail , whose transport tasks were largely taken over by the IGE on June 1, 2016. IGE took over the shunting services provided in Ingolstadt, Munich, Nuremberg and Regensburg for deliveries to container terminals and for the last mile to refineries.

vehicles

The IGE has its own traction vehicles, including a diesel engine of V 160 series (216 224), a diesel engine of the series 215 (215 001) and a Köf III (332 068). She has rented two electric locomotives of the Traxx F 140 AC2 series .

On September 2, 2006, the IGE was entrusted with carrying out the world record run with a Siemens ES 64 U4 (type Taurus III). The ÖBB locomotive 1216 050 reached a maximum speed of 357 km / h. According to its own statements, the IGE thus became the fastest private EVU in the world.

Since April 25, 2008, the IGE has also been offering long-distance train services for individual travelers under the Mitfahrzug brand . She used the special trains that were already in regular service, as well as empty and transfer trips, for which single travelers can also purchase tickets. In the meantime it was planned to set up a fixed circulation for the rideshare after a test phase. However, the offer of ridesharing was discontinued in the course of 2009 due to lack of awareness.
