Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne (born September 22, 1959 in Gossas , Fatick region ), is a Senegalese politician. He served as Prime Minister of Senegal from 2014 until the post was abolished in May 2019 . His name is also used in the spelling Mohamed Ben Abdallah Dionne .

Career

Dionne is a computer scientist, he worked for IBM , at the West African Central Bank and was an expert on the Maghreb at UNCTAD . He was responsible for economic issues at the Senegalese embassy in Paris. Most recently he worked for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Dionne was the current President Macky Sall's head of cabinet during his tenure as Prime Minister (2004-2007). In March 2014 Dionne became Minister responsible for the implementation of the Senegalese Development Plan (SEP). After the defeat of the ruling APR party in the local elections in Dakar, President Sall sacked Prime Minister Aminata Touré on July 4, 2014 and appointed Mohammed Dionne head of the new cabinet on July 6, 2014 , the composition of which was announced on the same day. Following the elections to the 13th National Assembly , Dionne was appointed for a second term on September 6, 2017 .

A third and final term began for him on April 6, 2019 after President Macky Sall was re-elected. After the constitutional resignation of the entire government, he was once again tasked with forming a government. However, it was announced at the same time that the office of prime minister would be abolished in the short term through a constitutional amendment. In addition, Dionne was entrusted with the role of Minister of State and Secretary General in the Presidential Office of the Republic. The term of office as Prime Minister ended with the promulgation of the constitution-amending law on May 14, 2019.
