description

Vegetative characteristics

Monanthes muralis is a perennial , slightly woody, densely branched small shrub that reaches heights of 5 to 10 centimeters. The slender, winding shoots are ascending or prostrate and later often drooping. They have a diameter of 2 to 5 millimeters. Their leaves form compact rosettes , the innermost leaves of which are soon spread out. The obovate leaves are rounded or slightly pointed. The leaf blade is 6 to 10 millimeters long, 3 to 4 millimeters wide and about 2 millimeters thick. Their surface is usually covered in the lower part with some glandular hair . Towards the tip it is conspicuously papilous , especially along the leaf margins .

Inflorescences and flowers

blossoms

The inflorescence appears terminally from the middle of the leaf rosette and is branched at its base. The six to seven-fold flowers are on the glandular-hairy pedicels 5 to 15 millimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 to 5 millimeters. Their narrow, elongated, pointed petals are 2.9 to 4.1 millimeters long and 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters wide. Along the edges of the petals there are usually glandular hairs that are shorter than or equal to 0.3 millimeters. The nectar flakes are 1.2 to 1.7 millimeters long and 1.4 to 2.1 millimeters wide. Your blade is somewhat fan-shaped, trimmed, finely serrated, nailed or tapering at the base.

Distribution and systematics

Monanthes muralis is distributed on the Canary Islands El Hierro and La Palma at altitudes of 300 to 800 meters.

The first description as Petrophyes muralis by Joseph Dalton Hooker was published in 1872.
