Monica Johnson

Monica Johnson (born February 21, 1946 in Colorado , † November 1, 2010 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter .

Life

Born Monica Lenore Belson in the state of Colorado, Johnson grew up in El Centro , California. Her brother Jerry Belson they committed in 1972 for the TV series The Odd Couple to screenplays retyping. When he found that she was adding occasional jokes that the producers liked, he encouraged her to team up with Marilyn Suzanne Miller to form a writing team. With her, Johnson wrote three episodes for the sitcom Mary Tyler Moore . The first she wrote under her name Monica McGowan , the second after she was newly married under Monica McGowan Johnson and from the third, and until the end of her career, only under the name Monica Johson . The two separated in 1974 and she became one of the first writers for the comedy show Saturday Night Live in 1975 . During the first season, Albert Brooks directed a few short films. Together with, she later wrote the first of a total of six joint films, Aus dem Leben Griffin .

Monica McGowan Johnson died of complications from her esophageal cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
