Monika Elisabeth Ribar Baumann (born September 19, 1959 in Degersheim , Canton St. Gallen ) is a Swiss manager. She has been President of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) since 2016 .

Career

After graduating from high school, Ribar studied economics from 1979 to 1983 at the HSG St. Gallen and graduated with a lic. oec. HSG. In 1999 she completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University . In 2006 she completed the New CEO Workshop at Harvard University Cambridge, USA.

After completing her studies, Ribar began her professional career at BASF in Austria in Vienna (1984–1986). She then returned to Switzerland to head the strategic planning department at the auditing and management consultancy firm Fides (later KPMG Switzerland ) (1986–1990).

In 1991 she moved to Panalpina . For 23 years she worked for this company in various management positions, including CIO (2000–2005), CFO (2005–2006) and most recently as CEO of Panalpina World Transport (2006–2013). When she left Panalpina, Monika Ribar ended her role in operational management and has since concentrated on various board memberships, including being President of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways since mid-June 2016.

In November 2017, Ribar had to publicly declare itself in favor of a port project in Angola because of a consulting mandate from 2015 . Between June 2015 and May 2016, Ribar sat on the board of directors of the investment company Capoinvest Limited by Jean-Claude Bastos de Morais . Capoinvest Limited is based in the British Virgin Islands and finances a deep sea port in Angola. Bastos manages the Angolan State Fund, from whose resources around 180 million US dollars will flow into the construction of the deep sea port. The profit of the port - the Swiss media assume - will largely flow to the main shareholder Bastos. Ribar received $ 100,000 for her seat on the Board of Directors of Capoinvest .

Ribar justified her involvement with her interest in the logistics project. Her position on the Angolan project only became known through the publications of the Paradise Papers .

Ribar is counted among the most influential business women. She advocates a stronger role for women in management functions and is a member of the Advisory Board of GetDiversity GmbH.

She has been married to Marcel Baumann since 2003 and lives in Rüschlikon .
