Monika Thiemen (born April 21, 1954 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) is a politician ( SPD ) and was district mayor of Berlin- Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf from 2001 to 2011 .

Education and professional career

Thiemen went to school in Berlin-Wilmersdorf from 1960 to 1972, which she graduated from a commercial vocational school in 1972. After training for the higher federal service at the Federal Insurance Agency for Salaried Employees (BfA), she was employed by the BfA from 1975 to 1992 as an administrative graduate .

In addition to her professional activity, she studied at the Berlin Administrative Academy from 1977 to 1980 , from which she graduated as a camerawoman.

Political activity and public mandates

In 1980 Thiemen joined the SPD. From 1985 to 1989 she was citizen's deputy in the specialist committee for social affairs of the district assembly (BVV) Wilmersdorf and in 1989 she was elected to the BVV Wilmersdorf, to which she belonged until 1992, most recently chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group.

In 1993 she was elected to the district councilor for social affairs in the district office of Wilmersdorf, which she held until 1995.

She then moved back to BVV Wilmersdorf as a district councilor, to which she was a member from 1996 to 1999.

During this time she worked as an employee of the BfA's policy department.

Since 1999 it has belonged again to the Wilmersdorf District Office, and from 2001 to the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf District Office.

From 1999 to 2000 she was District Councilor for Finance and Economics and Deputy District Mayor for Wilmersdorf, then from January 1, 2001 to December 5, 2001, District Councilor for Finance, Real Estate and Housing and Deputy District Mayor for Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.

From December 6, 2001 to October 27, 2011, she held the office of district mayor in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district and was head of the finance, education and culture department.

Monika Thiemen Prize

Every year since 2013, the district office of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin has been looking for the woman of the year to be honored with the Monika Thiemen Prize. The Monika Thiemen Prize, which is awarded annually, is named after the former district mayor of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (2001–2011), who was involved in women's politics and who initiated this competition in 2007. We are looking for a female leader who works in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin. You can be suggested or apply yourself.

The woman in responsibility heads an institution, a company, a department and encourages women to take on professional responsibility themselves. She is a mentor and networker. With her leadership skills and knowledge, she is a role model for other women and promotes the compatibility of work and family for women and men through organization and practical action. In 2013, the entrepreneur Annette Huth-Pleul received the award.
