Mono for everyone! (short: MfA! ) is a German electropunk band. You have been performing under this name since 2000 and come from Gießen .

history

The beginnings of MfA! are in 1987 in the line-up Mono, Kick and ÄnDie. Initially as a band project by classmates and without a name, the spontaneous idea for The Hatjokers emerged after a while, named after the simple fact that two of the founding members (Mono and ÄnDie) wore hats most of the time. First, a repertoire of cover songs was recorded. After just a few appearances, Mono with its song ideas and anarchist lyrics became the driving force behind its own repertoire. The songs "Boycott McDonald’s ", "All wrong pigs" and " Honecker come back" come from this early phase.

Due to a lack of money, the band was forced to develop unusual means in order to be able to work reasonably well, which was never changed, but rather contributed to the typical appearance of the MfA! still has today; For example the microphone holder that Mono always wears around his neck and which consists of a bent piece of iron wire, or the self-made organ pulpit and the hand-painted banners and posters. The band worked in this formation until 1990, when ÄnDie had to leave the band because his family moved. Then the guitar became a bass that was played by different musicians until today's bassist Yenzzo joined the band.

Mono for everyone! released their first LP under the name The Hatjokers in 1998 . They have been performing as Mono for Everyone since 2000! on. The band moves with their performances in the "alternative subculture landscape", some of their songs can be freely downloaded from their website. The texts are often provocative and deal with social issues from a subjective point of view. The music shows elements from punk , gothic , wave , hip-hop and hit songs , but is difficult to categorize overall.

In October 2001, MfA! the so-called internet album , which was available free of charge on the internet. The aim was to completely replace a conventional sound carrier: The download included the audio files in MPC format, instructions for burning the audio CD, a template for spraying the CD and a booklet for printing out and installing in a standardized jewel case .

In 2002 the band drove with some fans to an Andalusian drop-out commune to hold a concert there without being asked. The events are documented audiovisually on the album San Pedro Concert .

Although the band released a few albums despite their long existence, they have completed numerous tours in German-speaking countries to this day and also made guest appearances at festivals such as Force Attack .

Until spring 2013, the band was on their "doomsday tour".

Controversy

The lyrics of many songs, such as “rampage”, “Hello Verfassungsschutz” or “11. September “, often led to a lack of understanding. The Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution even demanded the deletion of the text for "Hello the Office for the Protection of the Constitution" from the MfA! Investigations by the public prosecutor's office have been ongoing since 2006 for instructions on criminal offenses in accordance with Section 130a of the Criminal Code because of the song "rampage". The game editor and podcaster Christian Gürnth also came into the focus of the investigators and was monitored for years because he was interviewing the band at the time.
