The Mont Tabor is a 3178 m high mountain in Cerces massif , a subgroup of the Cottian Alps in the French department of Savoie (Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ).
The summit marked the border with Italy until 1947 , but in the peace treaty - like the entire former Valle Stretta as Vallée Étroite - France was added.
At the summit there is a mountain church which, according to local tradition, dates from the 11th century and to which a pilgrimage takes place every year .
The summit can be reached from the Valle Stretta / Vallée Etroite (near Bardonecchia / Piemont ) via an easy hiking trail (for the height) - the locals say it is a mountain that you could drive cows up to.
The name of the mountain probably goes back to the time of the Crusaders who also visited Mount Tabor (Israel).
