Local history museum in Schruns

The Heimatschutzverein Montafon , so called since 2005, is an association based in Schruns . It extends its activities to the ten communities of the Montafon state .

history

The suggestion for founding the association came from a long-time Schruns summer guest in 1906: The Germanist Anton Emanuel Schönbach from Graz (* 1848 in Rumburg, Northern Bohemia; † 1911 in Schruns) suggested to a group of interested people to collect natural and cultural assets from the region . As a result, a free company was founded and collecting activities began. With the founding of the "Association for Homeland Security in Tale Montafon" in 1912, museum activities were then intensified. In 1921, under the long-time chairman Johann Wiederin, the Montafon Local History Museum was opened in the old Schruns Frühmesshaus in Silvrettastraße. This fell in 1972 to make way for the road widening and the new building of the Haus des Gastes. From 1973 to 1979 the Schruns artist Konrad Honold was chairman of the Montafon Heimatschutzverein. It is thanks to his initiative that the local history museum is not housed in a new building, but in its current location, in a historic house from the 15th century on Schrunser Kirchplatz.

tasks

According to the statutes, its purpose is to maintain the uniqueness of the Montafon valley . In particular, the protection of the landscape, the costumes, customs and traditions of the valley. He also made it his business to maintain the traditional, down-to-earth architecture and to preserve the existing historically interesting buildings.
These goals are to be achieved through lectures, publications and the issuing of expert opinions. Among other things, the association is committed to protecting the Maisäßbauten , cultivating the Alps and maintaining dialect .

organization

The association has around 1000 members in 2019 and was one of the largest cultural associations in the state of Vorarlberg . With the Montafon stand, the association is the sponsor of the four Montafon museums, the

management

For many years, the museum management was the responsibility of the honorary board of directors. In 2000, the Montafon stand employed the art historian Andreas Rudigier as head of cultural studies. Until 2012 he was managing director and chairman of the association and thus head of the museums. In June 2011, the historian Michael Kasper was appointed the new director of the Montafon museums and in 2012 he was also elected chairman of the Heimatschutzverein.
