history
The plain at the entrance to the Montafon was already settled in the Middle Ages.
In old documents the place was called “Aruns” in 1430, “Arüns” in 1423, “Laruns” in 1442 and 1490, “Larüns” in 1522 and “Lorüns” from 1630 onwards.
The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to Bavaria , then again to Austria . Lorüns has belonged to the Austrian state of Vorarlberg since it was founded in 1861.
Already around 1500 there was a chapel in Loruns, which was enlarged in 1820. Today's little church was built between 1956 and 1960 and consecrated to the patron saint of water, St. John Nepomuk.
The place was part of the French occupation zone in Austria from 1945 to 1955.
Population development

The proportion of foreigners at the end of 2002 was 9.2 percent.
From 1981 to 2001, both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive. In the years that followed, emigration increased, but could be offset by the birth rate.
coat of arms
Blazon: In blue a silver wave bar, accompanied by a golden sun above, and below by two golden six-pointed stars.
The coat of arms was awarded to Lorüns in 1967 by the Vorarlberg state government. The coat of arms is taken from the coat of arms of the medieval Arünser family, which dates back to the 15th century.
- The place name Arüns was preserved until the beginning of the 17th century, as did the families "von Arüns". With the change of the place name from “Arüns” to “Lorüns”, the family name has also changed accordingly. In fact, the arms of the von Arüns and the later Lorünser are identical.
This old coat of arms is not of the type of most family crests, which usually suggest a peculiarity of the wearer. The coat of arms of the von Arüns rather describes the place.
Even Friedrich Wilhelm Lorinser wrote in 1868 that, in the arms of Illfluss is tagged, that of midday (sun - south) after midnight (star - north) flows. Dr. Bilgeri writes: "So there is a real town coat of arms of unusual age." - (Original text from the application for the award)
