The Montagne du Droit is a long ridge in the Swiss Jura in the canton of Bern . It extends over a length of about 25 km and is oriented towards the west-south-west-east-north-east according to the general fold structure of the Jura in this region. The ridge of the Montagne du Droit reaches a height of 1100 to 1250 m above sea level along its entire length. The two highest peaks are Mont Soleil (1289 m above sea level) and Mont Crosin (1268 m above sea level). The German name still used by the numerous German-speaking Mennonites who live here for the entire Montagne du Droit is Sonnenberg; this does not only refer to Mont Soleil.

In structural and geological terms, the Montagne du Droit forms an anticline of the Jura folds up to 4 km wide . It is bounded in the south by the syncline of the Vallon de Saint-Imier , in the north by the high plateau of the Freiberg mountains and the valley of the Trame . The western border of the Montagne du Droit is formed by a fault line that runs from the Vue des Alpes to the Combe du Valanvron and the Doubstal . To the east, the Pierre Pertuis pass marks the geographical delimitation of the Montagne du Droit, which continues eastward in the Montoz anticline .

The southern leg of the anticline of the Montagne du Droit drops steeply to the Vallon de Saint-Imier. Here the upcoming competent rock layers of the Upper Jurassic Period ( Malm ) are exposed in different places. The northern flank of the anticline, on the other hand, has only a relatively slight slope. The entire ridge of the Montagne du Droit is geomorphologically poorly structured. In contrast to many Jura chains, it does not show the apex of the folds broken open by erosion and therefore no pronounced erosion valleys. A special feature, however, is the shape of the Champ Meusel on the southern slope of Mont Soleil, northeast of Saint-Imier. It was not created by erosion, but is the remnant of a meteorite impact in prehistoric times.

On the plateau of the Montagne du Droit there are extensive Jura high pastures with mighty spruce trees that either stand individually or in groups. Every municipality in the Vallon de Saint-Imier has a share in this extensively used pastureland. There are various mountain farms and dairy farms and the typical dry stone walls of the Upper Jurassic to delimit the pastures. The only major road that crosses the Montagne du Droit leads over the 1227 m high Mont Crosin pass and connects Saint-Imier with Tramelan and Les Breuleux . The ridge is best known for the solar power plant on Mont Soleil and the wind power plant on Mont Crosin (both the largest energy plants of their kind in Switzerland).
