history

Karl Koburger founded Montana Energie-Handel GmbH & Co. KG in 1960 and supplied the southern Bavarian region with heating oil. He began supplying customers in the greater Munich area with a supply contract from Esso, his former employer. In 1965, a heating service with services for heating and heating maintenance was established under the roof of Montana Heiztechnik GmbH & Co. KG. In 1980 the business was expanded to include fuels and lubricants from ESSO as well as liquid gas. In 2000, the supply was expanded to include renewable energies in the form of solar, pellets and biofuels.

After the liberalization of the gas market, Stefan and Florian Koburger, who run the company in the second generation, founded the natural gas provider Montana Erdgas GmbH & Co. KG in 2008 (renamed Montana Energieversorgung GmbH & Co. KG in 2014).

In 2009, Montana added climate-neutral heating oil and natural gas to its product portfolio, and in 2011 the natural gas range was expanded to include all of Germany. Natural gas has been available from Montana in Austria since 2012, and Montana Energie-Handel AT GmbH was founded in November 2012. In 2013, Montana expanded its energy supply to include electricity. Initially, electricity from hydropower was offered to private customers; since 2014, business customers have also been able to obtain electricity from Montana. Due to the expansion of the product portfolio to include electricity, the German company Montana Erdgas GmbH & Co. KG was renamed Montana Energieversorgung GmbH & Co. KG.

In 2014 the Montana Group was able to raise its 100,000. Natural gas customers are winning and, according to their own statements, they made almost as much sales with natural gas as with the traditional heating oil business. The offer of the Austrian company Montana Energie-Handel AT GmbH was also expanded in 2015 to include the electricity product range.

In mid-2017, the group was expanded to include another company: Montana Energy Services GmbH & Co. KG takes on the measurement and recording of the consumption of heat and hot water for real estate management companies and private owners of apartment buildings, as well as billing the individual users based on the user.

According to its own information, Montana is a climate-neutral company. In cooperation with ClimatePartner, all emissions occurring in the company's operations are recorded every year, reduced as far as possible, and all unavoidable emissions are offset by supporting an internationally recognized climate protection project.
