particularities | highest peak in the Ticino Alps |
The Basòdino ( German Basaldiner Horn ) is at 3272.4 meters the highest mountain in the Ticino Alps . It lies on the border between Ticino ( Switzerland ) and Piedmont ( Italy ).
The summit is a popular destination for mountain and ski tours from the Basodinohütte , the Cristallinahütte and the Rifugio Maria Luisa . The normal route leads over the glacier , which extends to the northeast of the summit, and along the east ridge . There are ascent variants with routes over the fort gap to the northwest, the southern flank of the east ridge and the Passo d'Antabia south of the main summit, the latter being considered difficult, requiring rope safety and rarely being walked.
First ascent
The first documented ascent was carried out on September 3, 1863 by a rope team under Peter Jossi ( mountain guide ) and Zanini, Gaudenzio, Giacomo Padovani and Pietro Scuella from Airolo over the normal route.
