The Monte Disgrazia is the main peak of the eponymous group and one of the most impressive mountains of the eastern Alps .
It measures 3678 m slm and stands off the main ridge of the southern Bergell mountains between two side valleys of the Valtellina , the Val Malenco in the east and the Val Masino in the west, completely on Italian soil ( province of Sondrio ). It forms an approx. 600 meter long multi-peaked wall that runs in a north-west-south-east direction. If you look from the north-west or south-east, it appears as a sharp, elegant horn. It towers over the Valtellina near Sondrio by almost 3,400 meters.
In contrast to the other mountains in the area, which consist of granitic rocks, Monte Disgrazia is built up by talc-olivine-slate and serpentinite.
The normal ascent is from the Rifugio Ponti in the southwest of the mountain via the Sella di Pioda and the northwest ridge (G 4; II).
The first ascent took place on August 23, 1862 by Leslie Stephen , Edward Shirley Kennedy and Thomas Cox with Melchior Anderegg as a guide .
