Monterrey is a town in the Independencia district in the Huaraz province in the Ancash region in western Peru . Monterrey is located at an altitude of about 2950 m on the right bank of the north-flowing Río Santa .
Monterrey is located on a road that runs through the entire high valley of Callejón de Huaylas . To the south it is 6 km to Huaraz and to the north it is 26 km to Carhuaz . In addition, a footpath leads up the Cordillera Blanca to Willkawain (approx. 4 km) and further into the mountains to the regions of the eternal ice. There is a thermal bath in the village itself .
