Montesano is a place in the west of the US state Washington . The place is the county seat of Grays Harbor County . In 2000 there were 3312 inhabitants in Montesano.

name of the city

Legend has it that the owner of the farm that served as the post office was a very religious woman who wanted to name the town Mount Zion . Due to the customs in Washington State, the place should have been named after the Wynoochee River, which flows into the Chehalis River nearby . Other residents questioned the name and convinced the postmaster that the more exotic-sounding Spanish name Montesano ("healthy mountain") was synonymous. The Spanish language is almost unknown in the Pacific Northwest as a name for places that mostly come from English , the Salish languages or the Chinook Wawa . Montesano was suggested because Spanish was the only language known to all residents and the postmaster did not know well enough to notice the deception.
