Montserrat (Montse) Grases (born July 10, 1941 in Barcelona , Spain , † March 26, 1959 ibid) was a Catalan member of the Catholic organization Opus Dei . The Holy See rose Montserrat grass in the current beatification process for the Venerable Servant of God .

Life

Montserrat Grases was born in Barcelona to a devout Catholic family. After high school, the girl, known in her area as "Montse", attended a school for women's professions. The very pious and pious girl came into contact with the Catholic organization Opus Dei, founded in 1928 by the Spanish priest Josemaría Escrivá (then a secular institute ). In 1957 she asked to be accepted as a numerarian ( celibate member).

In June 1958 she was diagnosed with bone cancer in one leg. According to witnesses, she endured the severe pain with great control and never lost her joy and courage to face life. She died on Maundy Thursday 1959, four months before her 18th birthday.

Beatification process

The diocesan process for her beatification process began in Barcelona on December 19, 1962 and ended on March 26, 1968 . In 1993 another diocesan inquiry took place. The position on the case was sent to the Congregation for Canonization of the Roman Curia in December 1999 . On April 26, 2016, Pope Francis awarded her the heroic degree of virtue .
