Morfin is an American band from Pico Rivera , California that was formed in 2010.

history

The band was founded in 2010 by singer and guitarist Jesus Romero aka Chucho Mairen and drummer Miguel Hernandez. According to Mairen, the band name Morfin goes back to the term morphine . However, the group does not want to encourage anyone to use drugs; they wanted to make it clearer that this was the music that made the members feel good. A little later, bassist Michael Gonzalez and guitarist Pedro Gonzales joined them and completed the line-up. Together they recorded a first demo called Crystal Darkness , which was released in 2011. With the group hailing from the same area as Skeletal Remains , Morfin saw how well the FDA Rekotz label was treating the band from Morfin's perspective . Thereupon Mairen also contacted the label, which showed interest, so that it finally signed the group. The debut album Inoculation was released in 2014 . The sound carrier was distributed via Soulfood . In May 2017, the second full album Consumed by Evil was released, also via FDA Rekotz .

style

According to Frank Albrecht, the band plays classic Death Metal on Inoculation , which is reminiscent of Death . The album would have fit between Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy . The vocals are also reminiscent of Chuck Schuldiner . On the album you can hear primitive and straightforward US Death Metal with D-Beat passages and without fast passages. In the next issue of the magazine Albrecht also wrote that the band plays classic death metal with occasional D-beat passages. The singing is "groaned" and the lyrics are "sick". Inoculation is especially suitable for fans of old Death and Obituary releases. In an interview with Albrecht, Chucho Mairen stated that the band is influenced by groups like Entombed , Gorguts , Cancer , Death and Disincarnate . According to Albrecht, the singing is very reminiscent of Chuck Schuldiner, Martin van Drunen and John Tardy . In an interview with Albrecht, Mairen confirmed that these musicians served as role models. According to Mairen, Inoculation is about doctors who are experimenting with a new immune serum and administering it to test subjects. However, this experiment goes wrong, so that an epidemic breaks out.

According to Stefan Franke from voicesfromthedarkside.de the band plays Death Metal on the album Inoculation in the style of Death in the times of Leprosy , Obituary and Massacre on From Beyond . The band only uses blastbeats occasionally .
