The Mossaubach , also known as the Mossau , is a river in the Odenwald in Hesse . It gave its name to the municipality of Mossautal , as its catchment area represents an essential part of the municipality. From a hydrological point of view, the Mossaubach forms the upper reaches of the Mümling , as it is a little longer than the Marbach at its mouth and carries about the same amount of water. The Marbach, on the other hand, is richer in water at its mouth and significantly longer than the Mümling. The water of the Mossau brook thus has the longest flow path that occurs in the Mümling river system, namely 59.5 km to the Main, and thus 10 km more than the spring water of the Mümling itself.
