The DEFY mobile phone from the American manufacturer Motorola is a water-, dust-proof and shock-proof smartphone with the Android operating system, launched in 2010 . Thanks to the use of “ Gorilla Glass ” from Corning , the display, which takes up almost the entire front, is relatively dust, scratch and impact resistant. The back of the case is rubberized.
The device was considered a pioneer among waterproof smartphones. It is certified to IP67 . This means that it can lie in 1 meter deep water for up to 30 minutes without being damaged. The prerequisite for this is that all covers are securely closed. It was sold 4 million times by mid-2011.
Defy
On delivery, version 2.1 (Eclair) is installed with Motorola's own user interface "Motoblur"; an update to version 2.2 (Froyo) is available. The DEFY is available with a white and black rubberized edge on the side. The processor clocks at 800 MHz. At the end of 2010 Motorola had to revise the first series after some devices had problems with the speakerphone.
Defy +
Shortly after the takeover by Google , Motorola announced a revised version of DEFY under the name DEFY + ; it has been available since August 2011. The case has been changed minimally; the processor was clocked at 1 gigahertz ; the battery life increases by about 15 percent due to the increase in capacity according to the manufacturer; the device is delivered with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Defy Mini
The Defy Mini is intended as an entry-level device. It has a processor clocked at 600 MHz, and the 3.2-inch (480 × 320 pixels) display is smaller than the Defy. It supports UMTS as well as WLAN according to 802.11n. It has Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has been available in Germany since February 2012. In addition, in contrast to the Defy / Defy +, it has an additional front camera for video calls.
Competitors
Competitors are the Samsung Galaxy XCover , the Sony Xperia go , the Sony Ericsson Xperia active , the Panasonic Eluga and the Kyocera Hydro.
There are only a few types of outdoor cell phones on the market, e.g. B. the Samsung B2100, the Samsung B2710, the Nokia 3720 classic and the Nokia 5140i.
