history

The company was founded in Freiburg in 1946 by Paul Pietsch , Ernst Troeltsch and Josef Hummel . Under the name "Motorsport GmbH", the company was supposed to finance the founders' racing sport. The first magazine published by this publisher was Das Auto . In 1949 Motorsport GmbH was renamed Motor-Presse Verlag, and one year later it moved to Stuttgart. Almost all of the Motor Presse Stuttgart magazines came to the publisher through acquisitions.

In 2001 the publisher admitted to having falsified circulation figures: the figures for 16 titles in the third and fourth quarters of 2000 and in the first quarter of 2001 were up to 10 percent too high. As a result, the publisher resigned. According to the Central Association of the Advertising Industry (ZAW), to which the information community for determining the distribution of advertising media (IVW) is subject, “data and documents have been manipulated with considerable energy”. According to IVW, such manipulations had never occurred before. IVW resumed the publishing house in the fourth quarter of 2002 after Motor Presse resigned to forestall the threatened exclusion. The IVW then published the correct engine press numbers.

In the anniversary year 2006, the publisher published several issues of its magazine auto motor und sport , in which the history of the paper was processed. A hinged cover was produced on the front page, behind which there was a graphic from the front page of the first issue of Das Auto .

In addition, a review is printed on the penultimate page of every issue, on which original articles and pictures of older issues are placed.

In August 2008 Motor Presse Stuttgart sold the Consumer Electronics & Telecommunications division to Weka Holding . The magazines sold include Connect, Audio, video, stereoplay, autohifi and Color Foto.
