Mount Fletcher is a city in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa . It is located in the municipality Elundini Local Municipality in the district of Joe Gqabi District Municipality .
geography
In 2011, Mount Fletcher had a population of 11,488. Most residents give isiXhosa as their mother tongue, followed by Sesotho . Mount Fletcher is on the eastern edge of the city. He towers over them by more than a hundred meters. Lesotho is around 50 kilometers northwest.
history
The city was founded in 1882 after the end of the border wars . The place was named after the nearby mountain, which was named after the Reverend John Fletcher, friend of John Wesley , or a Captain Fletcher stationed there .
Mount Fletcher was in the Griqualand East area and later in Homeland Transkei, which was dissolved in 1994 .
Economy and Transport
Mount Fletcher has a campus of Ingwe TVET College where technicians are trained. There is a hospital in the village.
Mount Fletcher is on the R56 regional road that connects Maclear to the south and Matatiele to the north.
