Mount Gester is an icy and 950 m high mountain near the Hobbs coast in the west Antarctic Marie-Byrd-Land . It rises on the watershed between the Johnson and Venzke glaciers south of Mount Kohnen and Bowyer Butte .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from the years 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1974 after Ronald L. Gester of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration , who was a seismologist in 1971 and geomagnetic worked on the Byrd station .
