Mount Pleasant is a small town in the US state of New York , which has had the status of a city (" Town ") since 1788 .

Mount Pleasant is located in the southern part of Westchester County and thus north of New York City , to whose catchment area (New York Metro Area) it belongs. Mount Pleasant is located on Rye Lake (Kensico Reservoir).
Mount Pleasant is made up of four smaller towns - Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, Thornwood, and Valhalla - and two self-governing towns, Sleepy Hollow (which set the scenario for Washington Irving's book) and Pleasantville.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city covers an area of 84.7 km², 71.7 km² of which is land and 12.9 km² is water (15.26%).
