Movile (formerly Hundrubechiu, German Hundertbüelte, Transylvanian-Saxon Håinderbåchat, Hungarian Százhalom ) is a village in the Sibiu district ( Romania ). It belongs to the municipality of Iacobeni (Jakobsdorf).

location

Movile is located in a southern side valley on the upper reaches of the Hârtibaciu River (Harbach). The closest town is Agnita (Agnetheln; about 15 km southwest).

history

Hundertbüelte was first mentioned in a document in 1355. Presumably it was founded at the end of the 12th century.

The place is named after the numerous former mud volcanoes on the eastern edge of the village ( Büchel = hill).

Hundertbüelte belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and was on royal soil . The residents - originally mostly Transylvanian Saxons - were free farmers.

After Hundertbüelte belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary or Grand Duchy of Transylvania and thus to Austria-Hungary until the end of the First World War , it has been part of the state of Romania since then.

population

In the first census in Transylvania in 1488, 54 households were registered. Until the end of the Second World War, the Transylvanian Saxons made up the majority of the village population. In 1941 there were 807 inhabitants, 466 of them Germans. In the course of the emigration of German residents during the communist era, but especially after the revolution of 1989, the number of residents decreased significantly.

In 2002 there were still 335 people living in Movile; 310 of them described themselves as Romanians , 21 as Gypsies and 4 as Germans. In 1995, eleven members of the (German) Evangelical Church AB were still registered in Romania .

traffic

Movile is located on a road that leads south from the Harbach valley. Public transport doesn't touch the place.
