Mr. Bill , actually Bill James Day (born April 19, 1988 in Sydney ) is an Australian DJ and electro musician whose music can be assigned to the genres IDM and glitch- hop.

Career

Mr. Bill became known in 2008 through tutorials on Youtube , in which he talked almost exclusively about the Ableton Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and revealed his personal approach to music production to the viewer.

Over the years he developed an individual style that won him over, especially on the Soundcloud , Twitch and Youtube platforms . His rather complex songs have in most cases “chopped vocals” (English for “chopped up voices”), soft sounding kick / snare drums or claps and characteristic elements of glitch hop music, such as resampled synthesizers , whose sounds are created through various parameter modulations (filter cutoff, distortion intensity , FM intensity, etc.). Since Bill grew up as a drummer, he attaches great importance to individual and groovy rhythms.

In terms of both production and arrangement, his work has an experimental character. His songs can be assigned to IDM and Glitch-Hop , but these mostly have elements of other genres, including a. from psytrance , dubstep , house , metal and jazz to bossa nova- like rhythms. The graphic design of album and cover etc. is usually done by the independent artist FuniLab . Caricature-like, digital paintings are usually used to depict Mr. Bill's “mascot”, a black figure with cyan-colored eyes. This creature has an avocado-shaped figure and also has two legs and arms.

Bill holds a BA in audio engineering from the SAE Institute in Sydney. According to his Twitch streams, the course taught him the basics of sound engineering, but the actual process of sound design was not taught there. On his commercial website he offers u. a. Ableton tutorials and project files.
