Muchu Gimbatowitsch Alijew ( Avar МухӀу ГӀалиев; born August 6, 1940 in Tanussi , Dagestani ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician and former President of the Russian republic of Dagestan .

The Aware Muchu Aliyev studied until 1962 at the Department of Dagestani Philology of the Philological Faculty of the State University of Dagestani (DGU) in Makhachkala and then worked as a teacher and school director. From 1964 to 1966 he worked in organs of the communist youth association Komsomol at the DGU. Then he was an aspirant of the philosophy faculty and received his doctorate. In 1969 Aliyev became First Secretary of the Komsomol in Makhachkala, in 1972 First Secretary of the local organization of the CPSU in the Sovetsky district of Makhachkala. In 1985 Aliyev became head of the department for organization and cadre work and in 1990 party leader of the Dagestani branch of the CPSU. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of the Communist Party, Aliyev was first deputy chairman and then chairman of the Dagestani Supreme Soviet and, from 1995, of the Dagestani People's Assembly. He stayed in this office until 2006, when he was elected President of the Republic of Dagestan to succeed Magomedali Magomedov . 2010 Aliyev was replaced by Magomedov's son Magomedsalam Magomedow .
