- ↑ a b On March 21, 2014, following the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the law on the accession of the Republic of Crimea to Russia was signed by President Vladimir Putin. Thus, under Russian law, the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol became federal subjects within Russia. Under international law, its territory still belongs to Ukraine.
