Mukadi Bonyi

Mukadi Bonyi (born November 1, 1948 in Luebo ; † February 6, 2015 in Kinshasa ) was a Congolese lawyer with Belgian citizenship. Until 2006 he was a professor at Kinshasa University .

Education and professional career

Bonyi began his university education at the Collège Saint Georges in Gandajika , which he graduated in 1969. Just one year later, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Lubumbashi University . In 1974 he earned another bachelor's degree from Kinshasa University. In the same year he became an employee of this university. At first he was employed as a research assistant , later as a research assistant . In 1980 he moved to the Université catholique de Louvain , where he also worked as a research assistant. 1984 Bonyi was there with a thesis on the social right to a doctor of law doctorate . After returning to his home country, he was appointed professor at Kinshasa University. There he headed the department for private and procedural law and was also head of the Institute for Social Law. He was also an advisor to the Congolese president. In 2002 Bonyi was nominated for a position as judge at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg . The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo withdrew the candidacy. Bonyi later worked as a lawyer and was admitted to the Supreme Court of the Democratic Republic. As such, he advised his home country in 2005 in a legal dispute with Uganda before the International Court of Justice .

Others

In the 2006 election campaign , Bonyi campaigned for Oscar Kashala Lukumuenda . On June 8th, 2006, he was arrested by police who charged him with arms trafficking. Because of his Belgian citizenship, he was deported on June 15, 2006. In addition to his native Tshiluba , Bonyi also spoke English, French and Dutch, as well as Lingála and Swahili .
