Tuhu (German Tuhho ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääneranna in Pärnu County (until 2017: rural municipality Lihula in Lääne County ).

Population and location

The place has nine inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). Its area is 9.1 km².

The Tuudi River ( Tuudi jõgi ) flows west of the village .

In the moor of Tuhu

To the south lies the low moor of Tuhu ( Tuhu soo ). The 3710.2 hectare area has been a nature reserve since 1981. Since 1999 it has been designated as a landscape protection area ( Tuhu maastikukaitseala ). A hiking trail leads through the moor. There used to be an observation tower too.

The fauna is rich in species. Golden eagles , capercaillie , crane and black grouse are under special protection .
