Rame (German Ramme ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Lääneranna in Pärnu County (until 2017: rural municipality of Hanila in Lääne County ) in Estonia .

Wooded meadow of Laelatu

The place has twenty inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located near the Baltic Sea . The settlement was first mentioned in 1465 under the name Ramme .

The place gave the western Rame Bay ( Rame laht ) its name. It lies between the Virtsu peninsula and the Estonian mainland.

Culture

There is an international creative center on the Polli talu farm . It is dedicated to the visual and stage arts, but also uses artistic design for healing purposes.

The most famous son of the place is the Estonian book illustrator and graphic artist Helmut Polberg (* 1935), who was born in Rame.

Laelatu deciduous meadow

A nature reserve which is wooded meadow of Laelatu ( Laelatu puisniit ). It is one of the largest deciduous meadows in northern Europe and is under European protection .

More than four hundred vascular plant species and thirty species of moss grow in the species-rich area . Of the trees, oak , ash , silver birch and maple are the most common. Two thirds of the natural orchids growing in Estonia can be found on the leafy meadow of Laelatu .
