Muniruddin Ahmed

Muniruddin Ahmed ( Urdu منیرالدین احمد; *  November 22, 1934 in Rawalpindi ; † April 21, 2019 ) was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and writer. His specialization was the history and politics of the Muslim world with a focus on the Indian subcontinent .

Life

He studied Islamic and political science at the University of the Punjab , the Jamia Ahmadiyya ( Rabwah ) and the University of Hamburg . In 1960 he came to Hamburg as a missionary for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community . After a dispute with the leading missionary, he was expelled from the religious community and from 1967 to 1999 worked as a research assistant at the German Orient Institute in Hamburg and taught at the University of Hamburg. There he received his doctorate in 1967 at the University of Hamburg on Ta'rich Baghdad , the main work of Al-Chatib al-Baghdadi .

Muniruddin Ahmed is considered one of the pioneers of Urdu literature abroad. He published five volumes of short stories in Urdu. In addition, he has translated from German literature, seven volumes of which have appeared so far, including an anthology of German stories and volumes of poetry. His autobiography Dahlte Saayee was published in the literary magazine Savera , Lahore, and was published as a book in October 2006. His correspondence with Urdu writer Sayyid Ahmad Sa'id Hamdani appeared in 1999.

He wrote in Urdu, German and English . His scientific and journalistic contributions in European languages ​​appeared under the name Munir D. Ahmed.

Ahmed died on April 21, 2019.
