Murray Leinster

Murray Leinster (born June 16, 1896 in Norfolk , Virginia , † June 8, 1975 in Gloucester Courthouse , Gloucester County , Virginia; actually William Fitzgerald Jenkins ) was an American writer . During his life, Leinster wrote over 1500 stories and novels in various genres with an emphasis on science fiction .

Life

Leinster wrote for a newspaper at the age of 13 and published his first science fiction story, The Runaway Skyscraper , in 1919 . He served in the First and Second World Wars .

In a short story from 1946 called A Logic Named Joe , he was one of the first to describe a so-called personal computer and an early vision of the Internet .

In 2000, his heirs sued Paramount Pictures over the name of the film Star Trek: The First Contact (orig .: Star Trek: First Contact ), which was called as a short story Leinster. However, the action was dismissed as the term was now in common use.

Some of his stories and novels served as templates for film and television productions. In 1966 bpsw. the film Fatal freight published in the following year saw The Terrornauts .

Leinster married Mary Mandola in 1921 and they had four daughters.
