Muscari babachii is a species of grape hyacinth ( Muscari ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

The onion is 2 to 4 centimeters in diameter and egg-shaped. The outer onion skins are brown and papery. The middle onion skins are cream colored with pinkish brown or black spots and membranous, the inner ones are membranous and transparent. There are 3 to 5, usually 4 leaves . These measure 18 to 50 × 3 to 13 millimeters and are linear-lanceolate, runny and have a blunt or almost blunt tip.

The shaft measures 35 to 70 centimeters and is longer than the leaves. The inflorescence is a loose, cylindrical raceme that is 8 to 30 × 1 to 4 centimeters in size and consists of 40 to 100 flowers. The stalks of the fertile flowers are spread out horizontally, 1 to 6 millimeters long, shorter than the inflorescence and elongate very slightly to 9 millimeters when the fruit is ripening. The buds of the fertile flowers are ivory in color. At flowering time, they are narrow, oblong, inverted cone-shaped and measure 4 to 13 × 2 to 4 millimeters. They are ivory green towards the top and reddish brown at the base. The shoulders are sharp and ivory in color. The lobes are bent back, black and 0.5 millimeters long. The outer stamens are 1.5 millimeters long, the inner 1 millimeter. The anthers are 1 to 2 millimeters long and purple-black. The pollen is yellow. The ovary is 3 to 5 millimeters long and ovoid. The styles are 3 to 6 millimeters long and the scars are spotted. The stalks of the sterile flowers are ice blue, ascending to horizontal and 3 to 6 millimeters long. The sterile flowers are narrowly tubular, 3 to 7 millimeters long, ice-blue to pinkish white, with brownish-black lobes at the top. The capsules are 6 to 11 × 6 to 10 millimeters in size, broadly ovate to circular, and blunt or have marginal edges. The fruit flaps are not compressed too much. Each capsule contains 4 to 6 seeds. These are 2 to 3 millimeters wide, egg-shaped, rounded or irregularly shaped, wrinkled and black.

The species blooms and produces fruit from May to July.
