action

Treasures of world culture are presented in 13 collections of the state museums on Museum Island in Berlin-Mitte . At the beginning of the 19th century, the first museum building was built according to plans by the master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel , the Old Museum . In the film part of the individual museums on the island is presented, in which testimonies from different epochs in the Egyptian Museum give an insight into the life of the people at that time. The oldest pieces on display here are formed from the mud of the Nile around 7,000 years ago . In the Folklore Museum you can see how the urban proletariat lived around 1900, which is particularly interesting for young visitors. What life was like about 2500 years ago in antiquity can be seen in the Pergamon Museum , whose most important exhibits are the Pergamon Altar , the Market Gate of Miletus , the Ishtar Gate and the Processional Street of Babylon as well as the Mshatta facade . In four other museums you can see fine art from Europe from the 12th to the 20th century, including the mosaic of Ravenna . Other museums house Islamic and East Asian art.

On February 3, 1945, shortly before the end of the Second World War , bombers also destroyed the buildings on Museum Island. Immediately after the end of the war, Soviet soldiers, art historians and museum experts begin to salvage the museum pieces, which are being restored and conserved in the museums of the Soviet Union , so that after the buildings have been rebuilt, they can be returned to their original place on Museum Island. The 2 ½ million guests who visit the state museums in Berlin each year also include kindergarten groups, whose visit is even encouraged and encouraged.
