The Musikverein Leopoldau is a brass band in Leopoldau in the 21st Viennese district of Floridsdorf .

history

The beginnings of the Leopoldau Music Association go back to the boys 'and young gardeners' band founded in Leopoldau in 1930. The Second World War tore large gaps in the former association, whereupon the trained innkeeper Karl Seidl re-founded the Leopoldau music association in 1949. Together with the first chairman Fritz Boden, Karl Seidl taught all his students completely free of charge in various types of instruments. Ten years later, in 1959, the first uniforms and instruments were purchased. In the first few years, the music rehearsals were held in alternating rooms in Leopoldau , including in the Leopoldau rectory.

From 1997 to 2010 the Leopoldau fire station served as a rehearsal room until it was lost due to a sale. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new rehearsal facility on the corner of Siemensstrasse and Leopoldauer Strasse then took place in 2010. With the help of energetic members of the Musikverein as well as many voluntary helpers and donations from Leopoldau, the new rehearsal room was already available in 2011.

Social significance and concert activity

From the very beginning there was close cooperation between the Leopoldau Music Association and the Leopoldau parish . The church festivals are musically framed by the orchestra, in return the parish provides its premises if required. Since 1965, a large summer festival has been held annually in the large garden of the vicarage in Leopoldau, which is a social highlight of the place. In 1986, the then Kapellmeister Heinz Hartlieb campaigned for the first annual concerts with a concert program, which were held in the great hall of the HdB (House of Encounters) in Floridsdorf in the following years due to the large number of people and are still held today.

The Musikverein Leopoldau gained national fame through repeated live appearances in the radio show Motorists on the Road in the 1960s to 1980s. During this time two successful records were made which were distributed by the German record label Ariola .

The association is active at events of the Vienna Brass Music Association and thus contributes to the preservation of Vienna's brass music culture. The events include the Austrian Brass Music Festival , the concert ratings and the fascination of brass music in the Wiener Konzerthaus . Particular highlights were the "Old Comrades" meeting in the Polish town of Gorzów Wielkopolski as well as the Central Europe Wind Music Festival in the Croatian town of Split, in which the Leopoldau Music Association participated as a representative of Austrian brass music.

Youth work

In 2005 the Musikverein Leopoldau founded the youth orchestra "Orange Corporation". The youth orchestra was expanded in September 2012 and has since worked with the Vienna music schools in Floridsdorf and Donaustadt . This resulted in the Donaustadt-Floridsdorf Youth Brass Band.
