Mussulo , sometimes incorrectly called Ilha do Mussulo , is a spit about 30 kilometers long off the coast of Angola immediately south of the capital Luanda . The place belongs to the municipality of Massulo .
The maximum three kilometers wide, in the narrowest area south of the center for several kilometers less than a hundred meters wide peninsula was formed by the Benguela Current and the prevailing wind direction of the southwest trade wind . With the opening to the north at the level of Luanda Airport , it encloses the Mussulo Bay with several islands, the largest of which is the Ilha dos Padres in the north .
Mussulo is a recreational and water sports area for the residents of Luanda that can be reached by boat. A number of houses and leisure facilities can be found on the lagoon side. Many coconut trees provide shade. The sparsely populated long and wide sandy beach with a surfing area for advanced surfers stretches towards the Atlantic .
