Mykola Karpowytsch Sadowskyj (born December 1, jul. / 13. December  1856 greg. In Kamjano-Kostuwate ( Кам'яно-Костувате ), Kherson Gubernia , Russian Empire ; † 7. February 1933 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian theater actor , Director and singer.

Life

Mykola Sadowskyj was the brother of Iwan Karpenko-Karyj , Marija Sadowska-Barilotti and Panas Saksahanskyj . From 1888 he led his own troupe, after having worked as an actor in the theater groups of Marko Kropywnyzkyj and Mychajlo Staryzkyj . In 1898 his theater group joined his brother Panas Saksahanskyj's troupe. In 1905/06 he was artistic director of the Ukrainska Besida Theater and in 1907, together with Marija Sankowezka , he organized the first permanent theater in Kiev , in which he was active until 1919. In 1919/20 he was commissioner of the People's Theater in the Ukrainian People's Republic . In 1923 he emigrated to Prague and in 1926 returned to Ukraine. He died in Kiev in 1933 and was buried in the local Baikowe cemetery .
