The Myodocarpaceae are a plant family within the order of the umbelliferae (Apiales). The only two genera with up to 19 species occur on the Lesser Sunda Islands and from New Guinea to New Caledonia and Queensland .

description

Delarbrea Michieana

They are woody plants: shrubs or small trees . The leaves are alternate .

The inflorescences are usually composed of golden partial inflorescences . The hermaphrodite flowers are fivefold. There is only one circle with five stamens . Two carpels are a (syncarp) ovary grown.

They form fleshy drupes ( Delarbrea ) or winged nuts = Samara ( Myodocarpus ). They have a woody endocarp .

Systematics and distribution

The species of the family have their areas in Queensland (Australia) , from New Guinea to New Caledonia and on the Lesser Sunda Islands . The two genera used to be in the Araliaceae Juss family . as tribe Myodocarpeae R.Vig. classified.

The Myodocarpaceae family contains only two genera with about 19 species:

  • Delarbrea Vieill. (Syn .: Porospermum F.Muell. , Pseudosciadium Baill. ): They are small, thornless trees. The alternate leaves are compound. The leaflets are toothed. Stipules are missing. The inflorescences are composed of umbels. The hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold and the fleshy drupes are wingless. This genus is named after Antoine Delarbre and contains about seven species that occur on the Lesser Sunda Islands and from New Guinea to New Caledonia and Queensland .
  • Myodocarpus Brongn. & Gris : The fruits are winged. The eight to ten species occur only in New Caledonia.
