Tricine is a zwitterion with a pK s1 of 2.3 and a pK s2 of 8.6 (0 ° C), 8.15 (20 ° C), 8.05 (25 ° C) and 7.80 (37 ° C). The temperature dependence of the acid constant is ΔpK s2 = −0.021 K −1 .
Tricine binds divalent metal ions with the following equilibrium constants (pK M at 20 ° C.): Mg 2+ 1.2; Ca 2+ 2.4; Mn 2+ 2.7; Cu 2+ 7.3.

Tricine is used for biochemical purposes as a buffer substance from the group of Good buffers , with a good buffer capacity between pH 7.4-8.8.
