N -Methylformamide is a chemical compound from the group of carboxamides .

properties

N -methylformamide is a colorless, toxic liquid. It is an amide of formic acid and has similar properties to formamide , both substances are teratogenic .

use

N -methylformamide is used as a polar solvent (e.g. also in the Karl Fischer method for determining water). It is also used as an intermediate in the manufacture of insecticides. N -methylformamide shows certain anti-tumor effects and is therefore the subject of current medical research.
