The NV Gogol ( Russian Н. В. Гоголь ) is a Russian side wheel steamer that was sold in March 1911 after the sister ships Mikhail Klirichevskiy (1909 - 500 hp) and General Kondratenko (later renamed as AI Zelyabov ) on behalf of the northern shipping company “Kotlas - Archangelsk - Murman ”for the Vologda - Archangelsk liner service at the Sormowo shipyard . The oldest steamer in operation in Russia has been bearing the name of the Russian writer of Ukrainian origin Nikolai Gogol for 100 years . The cost was 140,000 RRR (rubles of the Russian Empire or Tsarskimi , German Tsar rubles). The ship is used as a historic cruise ship on the Northern Dvina .

history

The NV Gogol was prefabricated and assembled in 1911 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia . The ship was transported to the Suchona across the Volga , Scheksna and Kubenasee . Since the lock was too narrow for the crossing to the Northern Dvina, the boat was dismantled into three parts and reassembled in Veliki Ustyug . Since 1911 the steamer has been used on the Vologda - Arkhangelsk route. During the civil war it served as a hospital ship and cargo ship. Between 1919 and 1921 NV Gogol was in Petrograd for repairs . From 1921 to 1939 the ship operated on the Vologda-Arkhangelsk route. After a general overhaul in the years 1939 to 1941, during which the NV Gogol received a new hull (the old one served as a hotel for several years), the steamer was used as a hospital ship during the Great Patriotic War .

After the war, the ship was used on the Kotlas -Archangelsk route. From 1958 to 1959 there was another general overhaul, with the steam boilers being converted from coal to petroleum. In 1972 NV Gogol served as a floating recreation home for the “Svjosdotschka” shipyard in Severodvinsk . In the years 1972 to 1973 the steamer was modernized. From 1973 cruises were made on the Northern Dvina for the workers of the shipyard.

The steamer was rebuilt between 1994 and 1996 according to the requirements made for cruise ships. The number of passenger seats has been reduced considerably to 53 cabin seats, although the ship is licensed for 140 passengers.
