The vehicles of the NSB Type 27 series were tender locomotives of the Norwegian Norges Statsbaner (NSB), which were built by Hamar Jernstøberi , Thunes Mekaniske Værksted and Norsk Maskin Industri for passenger train service. 17 pieces were produced between 1910 and 1921. The last locomotives in the series were retired in 1969.

history

NSB type 27a

The locomotives of the NSB Type 27a series were called "Sydbaneracer" because the first locomotives of this type were used on the southern routes in the districts of Drammen, Hamar and Kristiansand . They were light and fast locomotives for use on routes with low axle loads. When the lines for which they were originally supplied were upgraded, they were converted to lower quality services.

NSB Type 27b

After 16 locomotives were built by Hamar and Thune between 1910 and 1916, another locomotive from the NMI building association followed in 1921. Since it was heavier than the previous locomotives, it was added to the NSB Type 27b series .

Calls

After the Second World War , the 27 series drove on the Indre Østfoldbane until it was electrified on December 17, 1958 . On the Rørosbane, the series was responsible for the passenger train pair 301/302 Hamar - Tynset until 1961, when it was replaced by the Type 26 ; the pair of passenger trains 373/374 Hamar– Rena until August 4, 1963 (was replaced by railcars) and the pair of passenger trains 377/378 Hamar– Koppang until May 31, 1959 (replaced by railcars). Shorter trains on the Vestfoldbane were part of their job until they were electrified in December 1957.

The last operational area was the Elverum – Kongsvinger railway line until 1969 , on which ballast trains were to be carried.

Retirement and whereabouts

The 27a 270 was the first locomotive of the series to be retired on August 3, 1957. More followed in the years between 1958 (including the only 27b ) and 1961 as well as 1963 and 1965. 27a 248 , 27a 296 and 27a 234 remained in service until 1969,

The last 27a 234 , which was retired on September 29, 1969, has been preserved and is in the locomotive hall of the Norsk Jernbane Museum in Hamar .
