The Norwegian steam locomotive series NSB Type 2a was built in 1861 in three copies by Robert Stephenson in Newcastle upon Tyne , England , with the serial numbers 1405-1407 for the Oslo – Kongsvinger (Kongsvingerbanen - KB) railway. They were delivered between October 22nd and November 8th, 1861 and put into operation in 1862.

Areas of application

Together with the first two locomotives of the NSB Type 1a series , the five locomotives started running on the first state railway in Norway. They partly resembled the first NHJ A locomotives from the Hovedbane , but were smaller, had no long boiler and the fire box was located between the drive axles.

As early as 1862, the numbering of the locomotives was changed, which from this point on was 2a 15 to 17 .

Since the locomotives were too weak for the increasing traffic on the Kongsvinger Railway, they were given other, easier tasks. No. 17 came to Eidsvoll – Ottabane (EOB) on July 23, 1896 , which is now integrated into the Dovrebahn . No. 15 and 16 were transferred to the Solørbane (KEB) on April 1, 1906 .

Whereabouts

Locomotives 15 and 16 were retired on April 21, 1914 and 17 in the course of 1920. No. 15 was scrapped, but No. 16 and 17 remained and belong to the inventory of the Norsk Jernbane Museum in Hamar . No. 16 is on display there, while No. 17 is operational and used for tourist trains between Hamar and Elverum .

No. 17 was given the name Caroline in connection with the restoration for the 100th anniversary of the Norges Statsbaner (NSB) on January 18, 1954 . The locomotive had been taken out of service by NSB in 1920, but was continued to be used by Klevfos Cellulose & Papirfabrik between 1921 and 1953 . There it was called Klevfossmerra . The locomotive was then restored to its condition from 1900, and the driver's cab that was added later was dismantled. No. 16 is in the delivery condition and has only one windshield for the staff.
