Naked among monkeys (original title: Eva, la Venere selvaggia ) is an adventure trash film from the Italian genre production of the 1960s . Its German premiere took place on June 20, 1969. For commercial reasons, the film was marketed in many countries with allusions to King Kong , for example in German-speaking countries with the alternative title King Kong and the brown goddess .

content

Three mercenaries commit a robbery; one, Albert, betrays the other two. A doctor and his assistant operate a chip into an ape brain. Burt Dawson, the survivor of the mercenaries, sets off for the Kenyan interior with his friend Robert and his sister Diana. Diana is kidnapped by a giant monkey. Robert is said to be blackmailed and Albert, who manipulates the monkey, gets rich as a result. Burt is said to be lured into a trap by Robert. Eva, the white mistress of the jungle, who masters the monkey language, comes to the rescue with animal friends. But she too is caught. Finally, Burt manages to free the women who were kept in a cage by Albert, who sought world domination with his operated monkeys, to serve him, and happily ends with Diana. Eva stays with her hairy friends in the jungle.

criticism

"A brain-burned script, gruesome visual arts, an absolutely cheap design and in this case, as an encore, the lack of any irony or even a hint of intended humor - simply a total cinematic catastrophe."

- Badmovies.de

"Maybe EVA is not exactly Mauri's best film, but this is definitely his most brilliant trash grenade."

“Confused [...] adventure film about a crazy researcher who experiments with great apes in the jungle, steals young girls and is finally transported to the eternal hunting grounds by a blonde hero. Lower level, unnecessary. "

Remarks

The English title King of Kong Island is an example of the marketing strategy of the importing distributor Dick Randall : there is neither a giant ape in the film, nor a king, nor does he play on an island.
