Nano Ruzhin

Nano Ruzhin , Macedonian Нано Ружин (born July 31, 1952 in Skopje ) is a North Macedonian professor of political and social sciences , former Macedonian ambassador to NATO and was the presidential candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for the Macedonian presidential elections in 2009, since 2016 he rector of FON University .

Nano Ruzhin was born to the parents Gligor Ruzhin and Stana Ruzhin, he has two older brothers. The family comes from the Mijaks group in the Debar-Galičnik region.

Nano lived with his parents first in Valandovo and from 1959 in Skopje , where he experienced the earthquake of 1963. After attending school, he began his studies in Belgrade .

Ruzhin graduated from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Belgrade from 1971 to 1975 . He completed his postgraduate studies in 1982 at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb after having previously spent an academic year in Paris at the Sorbonne . In 1981 he was admitted to the Institute for Political Science in Paris, where he worked with the French professor Alfred Grosser . In 1986 he received his Ph.D. From 1987 he was a professor at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Skopje.

In 1991 he founded the NGOs: Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) and JEF (Young European Federalists)

From the beginning of 1994 to the end of 2001, Ruzhin was elected twice to the parliament of Macedonia (1994 and 1998). In 2001 he was nominated by President Boris Trajkovski to represent Macedonia as ambassador to NATO in Brussels, he held this function until April 2008 from.

In March 2008 he received the Belgian Diplomat of the Year award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic News Magazine for 2007.

Ruzhin was nominated as the 2009 presidential candidate by the Liberal Democratic Party of Macedonia.

On June 14, 2012 he was awarded the French Knight of the Legion of Honor. The decoration was signed by Nicolas Sarkozy and presented to him by the French ambassador to Macedonia, Jean-Claude Schlumberger .

Since July 2016, Ruzhin has been Rector of FON University with a four-year mandate.

Ruzhin is married to Danica Ruzhin and has 2 sons.
